How to Make Breakfast for Dinner Feel Like a Full Meal
Round out any egg or pancake dish with a side that adds some green to the plate. A simple arugula salad with lemon vinaigrette cuts through rich, buttery dishes like strata or quiche.
Starch matters too, even when the main dish already has potatoes or grits. Roasted asparagus, sautéed greens, or a basket of warm biscuits rounds things out without much extra work.
Protein-forward dishes like shakshuka or chilaquiles benefit from a scoop of beans or a side of crispy hash browns. For dishes on the sweeter side, like pancakes or French toast, a side of savory breakfast sausage balances the sugar nicely.
Building a full dinner plate around breakfast food isn’t complicated. A good rule: pick one savory side, one fresh element like fruit or greens, and let the egg or pancake dish stay the star.
Make-Ahead and Leftover Tips
Most egg dishes hold up well in the fridge for up to 3 days when stored in an airtight container. Quiche, strata, and frittatas actually taste better the next day once the flavors settle.
Reheat egg-based dishes gently in a 300°F oven for about 10 minutes rather than the microwave, which can make eggs rubbery. Pancakes and waffles freeze beautifully; just lay them flat on a baking sheet before transferring to a freezer bag so they don’t stick together.
Breakfast burritos are the ultimate make-ahead dinner. Wrap them individually in foil and freeze for up to 2 months, then reheat straight from frozen in a 350°F oven for about 25 minutes.
Biscuits and gravy don’t freeze well since the gravy can separate, but it keeps in the fridge for 3 days and reheats fine on the stove with a splash of milk stirred in. Bacon stays crisp longer if stored separately from any sauces or eggs it was served alongside, so keep those bacon strips in their own container.
